Astral Kicking Upon Death

When I use group search to do s5, I sign up as healer and nobody else joins, so I go to the allod and get 5 free mercs. But if I die, it tells me I will be booted from the raid because I am not in a party. What am I doing wrong?

The mercs do respawn, but I still get the warning that I left the party. So they follow me around the ship and even hop off with me, but then I get kicked.
