You need to have at least one color pattern for Assault Shell to use the core.

Ingame description says about "base color pattern". If nothing changed since previous sale it is base one required.
This text can easily be misunderstood - you need any assault shell in stable not just color pattern because base colors can be obtained only with actual shell.
