runes are overestimated, they do enhance damage and defense but Dala is correct about the fact that gear does matter more than runes
hoewever players with good runes normally also come with good gear, since they are experienced enough to know how the game works :P

when i was a rookie player myself, i bought high level gear for my 1st reinc ( i had only runes level 4 then) and was able to kill even level 8 rune players, just because of the huge statpoint advantage of gear
(like you have dragon ring gear when u are in coba and so on)

also, high gear is expensive, as runes are... so basically you can buy both for money / gold, so its even
if you have level 3 runes there is no point in making teal gear since its ceaper to get your runes to level 4 or 5 in this case

and i agree about the thing that allods is run exactly the way it should be,
i like the point where you point out that for military tactics its extremely efficient to kill a rookie soldier before its a fully developed warrior
+1 to you for this!
(since there is respawn in game ofc thats not this serious like in real life but still its a very good point for those wo are not aware of these things!)

Yes, but slaughters like that are just a huge turn-off for the questing new player and reincarnation - they are the ones complaining because they lose exp when some badass wannabe storms in and kills them.

actually this was the thing that made this game interesting to me

i did my 1st asee teph with runes 2-1-1 1-1-1 and got killed a LOT, but i learned how to avoid superior enemys, how to lure them into traps and how to get stronger!
i had the vison once i will be the one that can kill with one shot / hit

if it does not kill me it makes me stronger, and since there is respawn i can only get stronger

asee teph is one of the zones that create good players and get rid of the bad ones

only losers quit because of superior enemies... the good ones learn how to kill them and become superior themselves!

and as for reincarnation - exp- loss: one possibility is to turn off flag of war, another is to turn off eggdebuff and level with pvp, and even another is to avoid superior enemies....

someone who as a reinc should be able to take these things in mind, and non-reincs do not lose exp anyway

Yes yes natural selection and all that. I learned to have a perma goblin near my at all times when leveling reinc to turn off debuff in case the sniper addon flashes a high level char running around just to be safe.

Also I played in asee teph back when runes were being set into gear and patronage actually increased damage done if you have blessing, and no currency exchange so i know it perfectly how hell it was in Asee Teph when lvl 40 player runs around with a warbanner "having fun" :D

Yes, that's why I quit back then.. Without blessing I had too low damage output to kill my own level kobold in Coba Plateau.... (I believe we didn't even get daily blessing and potions from the quest back then too?) The game seemed free to play but pay to win truly. You could have bought the items from other players with gold but that requires people interaction :D

The game was a lot different. When they introduced the incense mechanics, where it boosts damage by 50%/100%/150%/200%, they also removed the incense daily. If they hadn't removed the incense daily, I bet my ass nowhere near as much players would have quit. Back then however, we could farm low level mobs, so what free players had to do is go to a place like Coba at lvl 42, and farm without incense for 2-3-4 hours to make the gold to buy incense for a day of endgame. It wasn't good. You have your character kicking ass one day, and on the other you have him unable to kill a mob of his level without spending real money to get incense. No 4 hours daily incense, no incense daily, the only option to get your damage was to buy an incense from the itemshop. Or buy it from players. It was so bad, that GMs had to stock the AH with incenses, or have incense giveaways to keep at least a bunch of people around. :/

this really sounds horrible. i did not know that the game was at such a point... i guess THAT is what i would call pay to win then... or no, rather call it pay to play, cause if its impossible to kill normal mobs then you cannot play? ...

wasnt the crazyness that you were in danger of loosing the rune if you remove it?
if i HAD played these times i think i would have stayed with weapons without runes and in areas where mobs are 10 level below me or something :P
