having direct download links would be indeed a great thing; those who are unfamiliar with downloading files and putting them in dirctories can still use the automatical update

It's a good idea, though yes i would be one of the unfamiliar ones, but the download option has popped up and it is 963mb, though once finished it could have another download so we will see what happens if there is a 2nd download after this one as the last two major patches were over 1gb in size.

You can take advantage of Russians providing those links.

As long as the game version is exactly the same (which is true at the time of this post), you can download and patch the Russian client and then copy your "Packs" folder over to your International client. This will reduce your download time significantly.
