Stats on Wild Shore Gear

Is there a trick to get the stats you wan't on the gear when you upgrade from green to blue? For example when I inspect better geared players to see what I might want to go for, they will have brutality as the 3rd stat on some proficiency gear. When I upgrade I have tried different upgraders and everything I can think of and it just seems random, so if there is some trick to know what the stat will be I would very much like to know.


It took many tries to get my weapon of brutality to have proficiency added instead of anger. Especially since the boxes give me random upgraders this can waste a lot of loot and I don't want to spend the resources to further upgrade this gear if it could have had a better stat on it. I know that certain pieces can only have certain possibilities for the extra stat, I just want to know if I have some control over getting the one I want from those possibilities.


I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

you can change stats with insignias, for example if you have 3 prof and 2 det 2 tenacity you can only change the det to brut, and tena to vit or will

they are consumables and you can change stats on gear whenever you like, how many times you want
