Help! I'm stuck on the quest where you gather berries to make a lure to catch a flying fish, then fly to the top of the tower (follow-up to the first mechanical knight quest, where you kill the knight in the base of the tower).

I don't know the names in English because I play using the French client (helps me practice French a bit), but in French the problem quest is "Vol de Poisson"

Anyway, I get the berries OK, then catch a fish. There's a short flight followed by a zone change, then I have to use a "W" skill to kill attacking demons. So far, so good, except...

Once I have killed the required number of demons, the quest objective changes to destroying some barriers, but I continue to be attacked by demons, then splat! I"m dead. At no time did I have a different W skill usable for destroying barriers, just the demon-slaying one.

I'm disinclined to ask about this on the French forums because of the unhelpful attitude of other players over there toward people who ask about this.

So the ultimate question is "what am I doing wrong?" or perhaps "what am I not doing that would be right if I did it?"

Just keep killing the demons until the fish lands then you walk up the stairs, enter the tower and kill 4 clockwork knights.

OK, thanks. I'll give that a go. Roughly how many demons do I have to survive? (Obviously more than a dozen, but the question is how many more...)

As it was said, just try to spamm your ability and then it should be pretty easy. You can also target the mobs via Tab and then press the skill.
If that's still not working, try out Gladias suggestion with the HP pots so you live longer.

Thanks, spamming did it. OK, I got killed-and-resuscitated (?sp), but I survived long enough to kill all the demons, then landed and recovered before going into the tower.
