I don't get this event. The effect doesn't seem to do anything other than give you a skill to give it to others and it gives you a shadowy effect.

When you spread curse to others you get currency.
You can also buy items to remove curse from others and get different currency for purifying.

Both can be used to buy event items plus you can complete few achievements related to this event and giving some titles as reward.
