blackmithing skill increase

I am trying to increase my skill from level 8 to 9 in blacksmithing. i go into my apprectice tool kit thing and make something using copper and stuff but it isnt increasing my skill percentage to level9, how do i get to increase that skill level to 9 thanks.

If you want to look up your progress in proffesion you can click V? (or press I and choose skills tab) there you can see how much do you need to get to another level. Doing 1 item on lvl lets say 3 of blacksmithing won't give you the same amount of experience when you have 8 in blacksmithing. To keep getting the most possible amount of experience in profession, you need to do items that become unlocked once you hit another level.
