It depends on your goals, if you want to have a super strong char for pve/pvp, then yes, you will need to spend some cash. Still, you can buy some stuff (can buy all, but some stuff are just too expensive) with in-game currency. But if your goal is to have fun and do some dungeons, runs and pvp and don't care about be the strongest, then can play 100% free.

Don't know about the other servers, but New Frontier has a good amount of people playing.

the old, dark times of allods where your gear got cursed and all these horrible things are gone for LOOONG time now, its no longer true

the new server ("Equilibrium") without exchange npc however is pay to win, as a non-paying player you will be directly dependent on other players who donate to gain a lot of items
the normal server ("New Frontier") has donations only to speed up things, if you want to play free you can farm things also, there is an exchange NPC so you can trade gold for BC and BC for gold
or, if you dont like the idea of using $ directly you maybe want to play on the subscriptionserver ("Smugglers Paradise") which however has serious population issues

there are more than 3000 active chars just counted by me on new frontier and yes this game is indeed "open to new players"

so about difficulty,i would call it "easy to learn hard to master"
on the forum are veterans who are willing to help rookies with their knowledge

If you are willing to pay 10-20 euros every month, or at least once in 2 months then Allods is worth playing on New Frontier. But keep in mind that even if you pay this sum, it will still take you 1-2 years to have every important cash shop item

About the gem exchange: is great to have that but keep in mind that the exchange rates are very high.

Also, each class can play different roles in a party. Can be tank, healer, dps, support or supression (crowd control). Now, in general is a good idea to be dps to level up but once you reach max level, you can unlock a 2nd spec (by doing a quest) and then you can select another rol. I tell this bcs dps is the most popular choice but isn't the best for a free player if you want to pvp, but other activities can be done with any rol (except, maybe, supression which is mostly for pvp).

you can gain bc / gold either by farming or by donating
some players donate at the beginning, make a "base" like level 5 runes a mount and a lootpet and from then on farm the most (or everything)

are you paid to say this server isn't p2w? this game, in its entirety, has been universally known to be p2w since the original betas(when level 13 runes were randomly added to the shop for 27k(?) gems). runes didn't even use to matter that much back then until they were buffed(and the game was rebalanced around having high runes) to force people to have them

it is highly unrealistic to play this game for free. this person is a shill that is adamant on telling people it's "pay to speed things up", when paying speeds things up in the margins of years. you will never, as a new or free player, ever compare to any veteran or people who freely spends money on this game. your only chance is to play equilibrium where the game is still relatively new and the gap between players isn't as severe as it is in new frontier. not to mention all the free stuff you get for playing that would normally cost hundreds/thousands of dollars on new frontier.

literally nobody does this. level 5 runes are not, in any shape or form, competitive, or enough to be a "base". nobody in the beginning drops $50USD on shit runes, a shit mount, and a loot pet to somehow acquire billions of currency later. especially not after the MONTHS of gold exploits in the past where people earned hundreds of millions PER DAY and weren't banned for it.

that gold, by the way, doesn't exist on equilibrium. the server he hates.

the equilibrium servers point (items exclusive to donators) does not seem to attract many players

when i last time checked, i saw some lonely player with level 11 runes (this was before the premium system)
so its not like you will be able to escape the power of runes there or something

personally i care little, i have chars on all servers on all sides - so i can always enjoy no matter where, but it seems new frontier is the main place for gameplay

i did say free player, right? what's the conversion rate in new frontier? 1:5000? that's what, 2-4 gems per s20 with a replicator on boss4? you'll get a sovereign title before you touch the lowest hanging basket as a free player in this scenario.

it's actually really nice. i'm not forced to farm gold on this server like i had to in the past - i get gold for my upgrades, sure, but i get that just by getting the materials required to upgrade my gear. no, we mostly trade items for other items, which i rather prefer. i never enjoyed games that were an endless gold farm, i'm not chinese

sure, 5 years ago. i also made runes back when ccs were 1.5k for 1000. they were even cheaper before that, but that was pre-buff, so i didn't care(like most people).

i don't remember the details, but exchange rates at that time were around 50000:1. the vast majority of exploiters didn't get banned, and most of those who did, were unbanned. not many remained banned, but notable people who exploited it on dozens of characters(and thus, flooding the economy with enough gold to have protest for months from eu players about the merge) were unbanned with all gold intact. i can remember a single person who was unbanned that had their account totally wiped, but he was also hacking, so i don't know if that counts.

this also went on for something like 4 months, btw.

a barter system is actually very attractive, but i imagine most who haven't played wouldn't have noticed that's how we deal with trades

sure, i know of plenty who have 9/10/11s, and they're bound to expand. however, it's very possible for free players to catch up at this point in the servers life, especially when if you really want boutique currency, people sell it on the auction. things that cost 80m gold in new frontier cost in the range of 400k-1.2m on our server, and gold farming is the same speed. the economy is smaller and driven more by items than gold.

Equilibrium failed because New Frontier is underpopulated... Because literally every cash shop item is cheaper on Equilibrium, even crystals are like 20% cheaper, so Equilibrium is less P2W.
Allods has burnt out too many players, it has 0 publicity (apart from a dozen of youtube channels that get 100-200 views per video) and is underpopulated for a MASSIVE multiplayer online game.

Allods probably has around 2000 unique players from all over the world or even less. (don't forget that almost everyone has 3-11 incarnations, so if you see 100 chars ingame it's probably less than 50 unique players.

So tell me again, when an underpopulated online game opens a new server and it has 0 publicity, almost no players willing to return and a population too small for an MMO, how many players are going to migrate to the new server? probably 10% of the current population because no one else knows about the server, and so they did
, I bet my ass that equilibrium never had more than 200 unique players at the beginning. So those people liked the server, everything was fast and cool but one thing was missing: population, skirmishes never popped and so did many other activities. There was no other way to get more players into the server, it was a dead end.

The same thing happened to Smuggler's Paradise.
It all shows what a failure Allods Online has become
