Summoner vs Mage

I have played this game on and off and I am wanting to really get into. I have been caught between playing a summoner or a mage archetype. I plan to just be PvE dps. What are some thoughts on either class?

only one thought.. with both classes.. as dps.. stay in healrange (proximately 30)

Alone Summy and Mage has pretty much same dps( mage can be better if summy is alone), but whats allowing summy to be on top is Bloodletting which you can get from other summies and it will boost ur dps, also Summy has racial off heal/veil/aegis so in general better for the party :D

As Pio explained, summoner has more utlity and is a better group class than mage ;x
