I want to make my way back into the game on the F2P server but...

How is this F2P server? Is it still a pay to win like it was with GPotato?
I think the most important paying stuff was Rubies/Resetting rubbies. Do we need to pay for them still?
What are the ups and lows?

Thanks

Hello,

Allods Online is now published by My.Com B.V., a European part of Mail.ru (that publish the game in Russia).
As reseting rubies and runes are a decison from developpers, and as developpers haven't changed, game mecanisms are still the same it was a couple months ago :).

You will find several threads on this forum about going back to Allods after a few months. You'll first need to transfer your account in order to get back your characters : http://support.my.com/games/kbPage/54?code=en_US

Yes, the game is pretty much the same as it was with gPotato. I personally like it better, now. 5.0 changed a lot of things in the game, which resulted in making everything in the itemshop much more accessible for free players. Yes, you still need to pay for resetting talents and rubies, but you can easily make the needed gold to buy crystals in 2 days. 1 day easily if you put your mind to it.

I just returned to game recently and ive put a lotta cash into this game over the last few years and put a lot more in over the last month. But the gear upgrading system will take forever to get even epic grade astral gear.Astral blues take forever if ur a casual player and still not as good as epic crafted.i have nearly full epic crafted but i get killed so fast in pvp
Theres a lotta hard grind ahead just to get epic gear..but by the time ive got full astral blue everyone else will be astral epic..lol so the race is lost and Allods dosnt do catch up. cant compete just delete.

5.01 will change gearing to make it much easier for people to catch up, especially if they are in a good guild that is willing to gear them up fast.

"lol so the race is lost and Allods dosnt do catch up."

You are correct in saying the race is lost.
Once the first person crosses the finish line, the race has been lost.
However, that being said, in 5.0.1 they are introducing a "catch up" patch.
What does that mean?
You will get extra keys if you are behind.
You will get double upgrading percentages if you're using a blue on a green, or epic on a blue, etc.
You will also be able to be carried to forlorn, foul dale, and beyond.
They are helping the people that got left behind out.
You will never catch up to the top geared person in the game, however, it will be easier to not fall as far behind and catch up somewhat.

My guess is retention?
Which...could also be "exploited" I suppose, considering you can now carry people to higher sectors...

It is based on retention level.

Hmm.. tell me something about the end-game. I get to lvl cap, i suppose my gear will be made of green/blue equips. Will I have the possibility to find people in the same gear score as me and start doing instances for the epics? I don't want to be boosted, I want to have some challenge to get the goodies.
And is the crafted gear much stronger than the one you find in dungeons?

Since you're talking about the F2P server, I think the answers to these questions are yes.
There are still a lot of people in nooby green/blue gear that could use another person to help run astral.
As for epic gear? Aside from Weapon and Wand, all crafted gear has more stats than that of blue astral gear, so it's incredibly useful for a starting position.
Crafted weapon and crafted wand get surpassed by blue astral gear.

Are you telling me that there is no epic gear drop in dungeons?
If there is epic gear dropping in dungeons/raids, it is better than the crafted gear I hope?

allods has a silly system when it comes to getting better gear

instead of direct useful drops there are only upgraders that drop which you must upgrade complicated and expensive

(this only regarding endgame but still)

i would prefer purple or orrange drops in the hard instances too instead of upgrading *** items

Ok you lost me there...you seem to contradict yourself oO
What I understood from you is that gear doesn't drop, only items that upgrade your gear drop in dungeons. But in the last sentence I understand that its better to raid for items instead of upgrading them...

Upgradable gear drops in Wellebell.
Everyone can go to Wellebell unlimited times.
You can farm gear there, or purchase it from the vendor.
In order to upgrade this gear you acquired in Wellebell, you need to go to astral.
You can go to astral 8 times a week.
(Technically 12 if you went less the previous week.)
After you get the upgraders from astral, you use amalgam, which you get through doing skirmishes or buying it from others, or farming it yourself through alchemy... by combining the equippable gear, upgradable gear, and amalgam together.
When you combine them, you get a certain percentage towards the next level of quality.

Green -> Blue = 7.19% per upgrade or something like that.
So you need to get about 14 upgraders to make a piece of gear into a higher quality.
Along with that, you need a lot.....and I mean A LOT...of gold.

Hope this helps.

^Hclftw describes the process of upgrading very well and detailed here
only things i can add is that there is a limit of the amout of glyphs / week you can get and the amount of "uncommon loot" you can get
with uncommon loot you can also get upgraders, but only a few since its limited

Ok you lost me there...you seem to contradict yourself oO

you understood my post correct, but the last sentence was what i would WISH for, its not possible that way :(

How much time does it take to farm enough amalgam for one upgrade?

Question, Are the end game dungeons and raids challeging and good overall?

Would you advise me to start on another character or should I skip for now?
Don't know if I would play pvp, but pve is what I go for and I like to get the best gear and do most of the game...fairly though.
I guess i'm saying...Will I have a fair pve end-game if I don't pay a dime on the game?

Don't make new characters, instead unlock reincarnations, because that way you share mounts, runes, and all other itemshop things with the new character and you get a bonus skill on it and your main.

The most efficient way to get amalgam is skirmishes - WH/DF and AoD. It doesn't take too much to get enough amalgam for upgrades. You can also farm it with alchemy, for 9 amalgams per hour on average. It takes 1 amalgam to upgrade your gear once, but it takes multiple upgrades to get it to the next tier. 5.01 will make it easier to upgrade gear.

Yes, you can have fair endgame pve without spending a dime on the game. You can get yourself some nice lvl 777/666 runes fairly easy, then start working on pat5 over time. However, please keep in mind that being in a good guild is a huge advantage both in pvp and pve.

^i agree totally
you will have a proper endgame DEFINITELY if you act reasonable
the more you play the far you will get, allods is a very progression-orientated game

and yes, the raids and dungeons are very challenging,
the endgame dungeons ("instances" / "astralallods") need most times more than simple DPSing a boss, there are special tactics required, like attacking at the right time, taking cover, move, cc adds and so on

raids need excellent management to be successful and competent players which understand the game, they are far more difficult to manage than regular instances
however they reward with direct drops, relics, which enhance the luck-attribute of a certain type of attack
