Very sad ;(

I hope this makes hardware manufacturers rethink their position regarding graphics drivers for Unix-based systems before support for Windows 7 ends.

Isn't that illegal? Even police can't have that much private information without serious evidence to ask a judge for private searches etc was it house search, phone records, bank account info etc! It's still a crime even to read other ppl's mail without permission! E-mail is no different from an actual letter. That's so wrong what Microsoft does!

Emphasized the key words. They cleverly orchestrated it the way when you use their product you effectively give them permission.

Still most people won't care. Those who care will not use Windows 10. When Windows 7 support ends, riots will start.

im happy that at least here some ppl seem to care
theoretical its not OK but ACTUALLY the internet is a place without laws, so its up to you to protect yourself
if you are not good with firewalls / blocking / etc i would rater not use these windowsversions

as for win7 supportend, it does not really matter since keeping the computer free of malware etc is a question of adblock noscript and malwareguards (whatever you use, but use IPS and not signaturebased things) and not of updates
this way you can also just stay with windows xp, but its your responsibility to care for your compter then ofc
and yes i know many ppl cant handle these things and thus are "dependent" on upgrades, its sad

the only thing that will be missing are hardwaredrivers for old systems, but even those can be done somehow

so if anyone needs to use these windowsversions but cant stop the spyware in it think about what you enter into your computer and keep in mind someone is watching...

@Tinfoilhat: this is really no question of conspiracytheories if they just wirte "hey we send every keystroke to the internet"
its obvious espionage of te user
what they do with that is up to your imagination, but its bad enough they try to do it at all

Unless hardware (graphic chipset) manufacturers make all the info required to write proper drivers for Unix/GNU-Linux public or write optimized drivers themselves, the fps and overall performance when playing on those systems will always be much worse. There's simply NO way around it. ;(

i especially meant for example if you stay at windows 7 or windows xp and buy new hardware there my be no drivers for it anymore
overall-performance on windows xp is MUCH better than on any other windowsversion for example
but since windows xp wont get official dx10 and higher its up to the user to do this if he want to play dxgames on xp for example

or new laptops, many of them do not have any drivers available for win xp and its also up to the user to fix this
same if you buy an actual videocard, you wont find xp-drivers on its website

for linux its even worse ofc, no question
(i think everything shold be opensource, would give the option to imprive a LOT without all the reversengineering and other timeconsuming things)

From what I've heard Win 10 is a really good update for 7/8.1. So it's prob worth getting, especially now that it's free, unless ofc you want to keep your tinfoil hat and don't want to share what kind of kinky porn ur watching with m$.

Gonna try it out when they release the first "service pack".

Real question is "Do they really do what they say they do?". I would not trust Microsoft.

if you understand how things work there are ways to block that spywareactivities(and everythig else you want to block), no question, but the ones who do not know about how to do these things are lost

and for disable updates there is no option by default in non-enterprise version
so they update YOUR computer when THEY want...
