New player

Hello!

New player here and want to get some help/advice regarding a fresh character. Tried out a few and i really liked the Psionicist best. But before i "waste" time on leveling one properly i just wanted to ask a few questions. I read around on the forums and almost every thread was suggesting either a summoner or a paladin. Is the difference really that big and what should i expect later game if i stick to my Psionicist? Also i see there will be an upcoming patch. What should i expect then?
